This week may have ended with freezing temperatures, but our mathematicians were on fire with their new subtraction regrouping strategies and skills! We even learned some new chants and cheers to help us remember our steps (ask your mathematician what we do if there's more on top, more on the floor, or numbers are the same). This concept is one of the toughest ones we tackle in second grade, but we've got very persistent learners! We keep using our positive self-talk, reminding ourselves to go step-by-step, and understanding that mistakes are learning opportunities.
We demonstrated Earth's rotation and revolution with lights, swivel stools, and students--a fun way to bring these big ideas to our small room!
While we spent most of today indoors due to the wintry weather, we did get a chance to check out the sleet for a minute.
