As mathematicians, we've applied our knowledge of addition and subtraction within the context of complex word problems. We've been like math detectives, determining what information we need, what we can get rid of, and how we need to solve each problem.
Over the past week, we've learned that multiplication is repeated addition. We have used different strategies like skip counting on a hundreds chart to visualize those patterns of numbers building upon one another. We even skip counted our shoes and fingers!
Science has led us on many different adventures. In addition to our field trips to the Bob Bullock Museum and the Austin Nature and Science Center, we've been busy observing live organisms right in the classroom! Unfortunately, our batch of Painted Lady larvae turned out to have a low survival rate, but we will be getting a new shipment in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we've compared and contrasted our needs and bodies to our caterpillars and have enjoyed learning about the life cycle and mysterious metamorphosis of these insects.
Hard to believe we're only four weeks away from summer...just like our soon-to-be-butterflies, we'll be ready to fly free!
